Blog 23: Final Lesson Reflection

(1) Positive Statement

What are you most proud of in your block presentation and/or your senior project? Why?

(2) Questions to Consider

a. What assessment would you give yourself on your block presentation (self-assessment)?

P

b. What assessment would you give yourself on your overall senior project (self-assessment)?

AP+ or P

(3) What worked for you in your senior project?

I think what worked for my senior project was the fact that I really enjoy math and physics so learning about aerodynamics was an enjoyable experience. My topic also pertains to rockets and airplanes all of which are things I have been very interested in since I was a kid.

(4) (What didn't work) If you had a time machine, what would you have done differently to improve your senior project if you could go back in time?

What didn't work was finding a mentor in this specific field. As a result, if I could go back, I probably would have either chose an easier topic to find a mentor in or email any and everyone I could to try and get a mentor at this time.

(5) Finding Value

My senior project has helped in my future endeavors a lot. Currently, I am going to CSU Long Beach to study aerospace engineering, so, as a result, I have been able to get a feel and understanding of the basics of what I am going to be learning. This also helped me decide which focus of aerospace engineering I want to go into. My whole senior project has been on airplanes, and this caused me to realize how much  more enjoyment I get out of the rockets and space side of this over the airplanes, not to say I don't like this, it just does not peak my interest as much. It also has helped me understand the best ways to approach professionals from out of nowhere and made me a lot less afraid of being told no. The worst that can happen when you ask is you get a no. All of this I plan on using to get ahead of the other engineers at my university so I can be more competitive in the rough job market.

Blog 16: Answer 2

1. What is your EQ?

What is the best way to decrease drag and increase fuel economy in aircraft?

2. What is your first answer? (In complete thesis statement format)

By implementing a blended wing body design, an aircraft can produce lift at all points decreasing the effect of drag.

3. What is your second answer? (In complete thesis statement format)

By using the box tail design of the Synergy aircraft, the structure of a plane can have reduced vortex drag allowing for more distance on less fuel.

4. List three reasons your answer is true with a real-world application for each.

1. Vortex drag forms at the wingtips, the box tail alters the wingtips. Commercial aircraft.
2. Allows for efficient and fast flight, because the double box tail would reduce the drag greatly at high speeds. The Synergy Aircraft itself.
3. It takes the basic idea of a biplane, but instead of the negative penalties that result from that design, by shaping it how it is, it forces those drags to be reduced causing them to benefit the aircraft. This can be used in small personal aircraft.

5. What printed source best supports your answer?

Jahanmiri, Mohsen. "Aircraft Drag Reduction" Chalmers University of Technology. Print.

6. What other source supports your answer?

The Synergy Aircraft website, synergyaircraft.com

7. Tie this together with a concluding thought.

There is a high probability that a red dwarf star passed through our solar system's Oort cloud a long time ago meaning another star pit stopped in our system. That is pretty cool, space is cool.

Lesson 2 Reflection

1.What are you most proud of in your Lesson 2 Presentation and why?

I am most proud of my ability to communicate what I feel is the most basic aerodynamics in a fairly understandable manner for the audience.

2. a. What assessment would you give yourself on your Lesson 2 Presentation (self-assessment)?

 P

b. Explain why you deserve that grade using evidence from the Lesson 2 component contract.

I feel I deserve a P because I fulfilled all of the requirements at the top of the contract to receive a P, and I did so adequately, especially the quality research portion because the majority of my presentation was factual information on aerodynamics.

3. What worked for you in your Lesson 2?

What worked for me was my ability to have enough information to talk for at least the required time, and maybe more.

4. What didn't work? If you had a time machine, what would you have done differently to improve your Lesson 2?

If I had my time machine, I would have rehearsed my presentation completely so there were less awkward pauses throughout the presentation.

5. What do you think your answer #2 is going to be?

I think my second answer will have something to do with the fuel-efficient features that have made the Synergy aircraft such an efficient aircraft.

Blog 9: Lesson 1 Reflection

1. Positive Statement

a. What are you most proud of in your Lesson 1 Presentation and why?

I am pretty proud of my lessons in aerodynamics because I thought I did a fairly good job at explaining it in basic terms.

2. Questions to Consider

a. What assessment would you give yourself on your Lesson 1 Presentation (self-assessment)?

P

b. Explain why you deserve that grade using evidence from the Lesson 1 component contract.

I feel like I executed my lesson pretty well and met all the requirements outlined in the rubric.

3. What worked for you in your Lesson 1?

What worked for me during my first lesson was my hook activity because I told everyone to make a paper airplane... oh excuse me... a paper "glider" from a simple piece of paper. I think it was entertaining to the audience.

4. (What didn't work) If you had a time machine, what would you have done differently to improve your Lesson 1?

If i had a time machine I would practice my presentation more before hand so I knew at least a decent idea of what I was going to say and how long it was going to take.
